On September 1, 2017, Dr. Ong celebrated 18 years as the owner of this optometric practice established in 1954by Dr. Elliott Kapchan. While practicing for 21 years as an optometrist, Dr. Jennifer Ong serves as Vice Chair of the Sierra Club San Francisco Bay Chapter and the Alameda County Workforce Development Board. She will be completing her term on the Alameda Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and continuing her service on the Board of Directors for the LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Editorial Board of “Women in Optometry”, the Women’s Caucus of the California Democratic Party and the Advisory Council of the United Nations-USA East Bay Chapter.
Our office continues to host, support and participate in mentorship, apprenticeship, internship and On-the-Job Training programs for Toolworks (a job placement for persons with disabilities), San Lorenzo Unified School District, Pennsylvania College of Optometry, U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry, Hayward Adult School and the California Department of Apprenticeship Programs.
On Oct. 13, our office will be honored as the Business Partner of the Year by the Eden Area Regional Occupational Program and affiliate Eden Area school districts. To address the shortage of auxiliary personnel in health care, Dr. Ong established the Eye Care Assistant Training Program- a collaboration between the Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society and adult schools throughout the Bay Area and South San Francisco area. We look forward to continuing many more years of providing eye care to families in the Bay Area and beyond.
